MVetClinStud - University of Sydney (Australia), 1993. This degree, Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies, is equivalent to MS (Master of Science) here in the US. My Master's degree was conferred for original research in equine exercise physiology and publication of the thesis "Clinical Exercise Testing of Racehorses."

AVMA Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates, Accreditation Program, 2003-2004. This 4-step program validated my Australian credentials and clinical experience in veterinary medicine, a necessary requirement for veterinary licensure in the US for veterinarians who graduated from vet schools outside of North America.

Hi, I'm Dr. Chris King. I graduated from vet school in 1985 and have been enthusiastically following this, my passion, ever since. Horses are my primary interest, but I love working with dogs and cats, too.

In brief, I am a fully credentialled and licensed veterinarian with experience in private practice, university teaching hospitals, veterinary research, publishing, and public speaking, in Australia and the US.

There's more about my veterinary background below.

My veterinary degrees were all

EDUCATION

BVSc - University of Queensland (Australia), 1985. This degree, Bachelor of Veterinary Science, is the veterinary degree awarded on completion of veterinary school in Australia. It is equivalent to DVM or VMD here in the US.

MACVSc - Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, Equine Chapter, 1991. This degree (Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists) is similar to Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (DipABVP) here in the US. It is based on written and oral examinations, once the applicant has at least 5 years of practice experience in her chosen field (in my case, equine medicine).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I spent the first 6 years of my career in private practice in Australia, most of that time at a specialty equine hospital. For the next 3 years I worked at Veterinary Teaching Hospitals as a resident veterinarian, first in Australia (University of Sydney Equine Hospital) and then in the US (North Carolina State University Large Animal Hospital).

Those were intense years, so after leaving NCSU I took a break from active practice and worked as a veterinary medical writer and editor for several years. During that time I maintained an active interest in equine medicine and I also pursued an emerging interest in complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM). In 2002 I finally felt ready to return to veterinary practice, and thus was Anima born.

My interest in CAVM began many years ago, but I have been actively pursuing knowledge and skills in this diverse area of veterinary medicine since 1999. I am most drawn to manual and movement therapies, nutritional and herbal therapies, homeopathy, flower and herbal essences, medical intuitive evaluation, and distance healing.
