ENERGY MEDICINE

Energetic or vibrational medicine encompasses a wide variety of healing practices that, despite their outward differences, are each founded on the premise that the body has both seen and unseen elements - matter and energy - and that physical manifestations of illness often have their foundation in the nonphysical, or energetic, aspect of our being.

The word "energy" is so broad in its meaning and usage that it is, more often than not, a source of confusion and conflict rather than clarity. What "energy medicine" means can be impossible to satisfactorily explain to someone who has not yet been drawn to exploring this fascinating aspect of our universe and our selves.

For me, the core concept is that all matter is formed of energy. Our bodies, which seem solid enough, are composed of atoms. And while the atom may seem a concrete enough concept, the scientific field of quantum physics tells us that atoms are mostly empty space. Furthermore, the subatomic particles (protons, neutrons, electrons) within the atom's structure aren't really particles at all, but are energy acting as matter.

For example, electrons can act like particles or like waves, depending on what the observer expects to see!  In fact, at the subatomic level, nothing is definite; anything is possible. That opens up a world of possibilities for interacting with and even influencing the structure or behavior of matter.

For a very readable explanation of these concepts and the science behind them, I recommend the book, The Field by Lynne McTaggart. For a fairly comprehensive guide to the various forms of energy medicine, I  recommend A Practical Guide to Vibrational Medicine by Richard Gerber, MD.
