Red Clover

(Trifolium pratense leaf & flower)

This lovely essence is bright, nourishing, pleasing, quietly joyful, and beautiful. The term "bucolic" comes to mind. "I'm food for your body and soul," it says.

I was unprepared for the adjective "protective" to be used to describe this essence - until I realized the nature of its protective qualities. It protects against illness by preserving/maintaining vitality; illness cannot abide in a healthy body. Red Clover helps maintain a healthy body.

Red Clover is also regenerative. This plant provides a carpet of good food and it regrows after it's been harvested, whether by humans or animals. And if that wasn't enough, this plant gives back to the soil as much as it takes; it is truly a regenerative plant.

Having some idea about red clover as a medicinal herb, I had a few questions for this herb:

Does it contain estrogenic substances or have estrogen properties? No, it is not estrogen as we have been led to believe, but it does promote reproductive function, including milk production and flow, by virtue of its nutritive properties.

Is it a blood cleanser (whatever that means!)? No, not exactly; it is rich in minerals and vitamins, so it helps with red blood cell production, including haemoglobin production, and function so it optimizes the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood - but simply by providing the body with the nutritional building blocks it needs in order to do what it's designed to do. In this way, it also supports healthy circulation and cellular respiration. This plant and its essence is simple yet powerful!

One more thing (for now), Red Clover is great for herbivores; it's also great for carnivores, especially those being fed a cereal-packed diet, with little or no fresh, red meat.
